Sept 5 Update

Tyaughton Team
Sep 5, 2023
Sept 5
8:30pm
Jim joined back with the team and jumped right back in action after three days away in the city. Routine recon drive turned into some spot fire mitigation when we discovered a spot fire smouldering near new fuel on Blue Trail.
Happy to hear that more scans will be happening of the area, very few spot fires and the vast majority that exist are in areas where there is no fuel for them to jump to and spread.
John rans some owner pumps on South-end of the lake but the rest remained silent. Team discussed pump plan for tomorrow and if weather continues to be cold and humidity high we'll likely not run them tomorrow as there doesn't appear to be any threat at this time.
Lots of bucketing happened today, about four hours of bucketing that as near as we could pin point was a little over a kilometre South West of lake. We also heard chainsaws and people on the ground directing the helicopters so they seemed to have it well under control. Jim and Jeff will keep an eye on the area overnight.
Many hours and many helicopters working on the fire on both sides of the knoll at Plateau Ponds area.
Jim passed a truck load of hydro poles heading towards Gold Bridge direction when he came in this morning.
We saw one hydro truck and worker seemingly assessing damage both on Tyaughton Lk Rd and Gun Creek Rd. Someone mentioned power would not be on for at least a week, maybe two.
All is well up here!
Will post some pictures and video in next bit
BC Wildfire Update, Sept 5, 5:49
Overview
Temperatures will reach the low 20’s Tuesday, in the area of the Bendor Range Complex. Relative humidity values will range from 30-60%. There is a slight risk of isolated showers as well as potential thunderstorms for the area. Winds are forecast to be light at 5-15 km/h.
Overnight, temperatures are forecast to dip down to 6 degrees. A trace to 5 mm of precipitation is expected on Wednesday.
Nomad Creek Wildfire (K73144)
A wildfire was reported late Saturday afternoon approxi- mately five kilometres east of Bralorne on the north side of the Kingdom Lake Forest Service Road. The local fire department, community members and BC Wildfire Service responded.
On the west side, hoselay was completed Sunday most of the way up slope toward rocky, mountaintop terrain that serves as a natural fire break. By end of day Monday, crews had established a 50-100-foot cold edge on the west side.
On Tuesday, crews continue working on the east flank conducting direct attacks on the fire’s edge and establishing hoselay to construct a 5-foot cold edge. Firefighters are working upslope from the bottom and down from the top to establish a continu- ous line, while also patrolling and extinguishing hotspots, pushing 50 feet in from the fire edge.
The most recent track of the fire shows it is still approximately 24 hectares in size. Further updates will be provided as information is available.
Downton Lake Wildfire (K71649)
Structure protection personnel finished demobilizing equipment from properties in the Tyaughton Lake and Gun Creek areas where they are confident it is no longer required. Personnel will be in Gold Bridge on Tuesday to begin demobilizing equip- ment there. These crews will remain in the Downton Lake wildfire area in the coming days to monitor and patrol, and respond to any threats to properties, structures and other values. Infrared scans are being conducted to identify heat around the pe- rimeter of the fire, particularly in priority areas where properties, structures and communities are close by. These scan results aid crews as they search out hotspots and extinguish them.
There are 50 firefighters working on the fireline Monday. Crews are conducting patrols along guards to ensure all hotspots have been extinguished in the Gun Lake Road North area. Bladders and hose are being demobilized along the Hornal Connect- or and Tyaughton East guards where the equipment is no longer required. Firefighters continue to seek out and extinguish hotspots with the aid of infrared scan results. Mop up is ongoing in many areas of the fire perimeter. Expect patrols, monitoring and mop up activities to continue in the coming weeks.
1:00pm
Some wind from the south
cool day at the lake - 19, but feels like 15
All the Structure Protection was removed from West Side
Yesterday spot fires continued to be dealt with throughout Gun Creek Rd and Tyaughton Lake Rd East.
There was some bucketing yesterday in support of spot fire crews
Today, haven't seen anyone (doesn't mean no one is here, they have been tromping through burnt areas that aren't visible from trails) only one bladder left on Tyaughton East. There has been three helicopters bucketing from Tyaughton on a continuous basis since 11am. Originally they seemed to be hitting a spot South West of lake but we couldn't see any smoke. We watched for a bit, and will go investigate further this afternoon, particularly if it's continuing in same area. We're hopeful they are just attacking hotspots that are less accessible to the ground crews. If this is the case that's awesome.
RCMP and Conservation Officers have stepped up their presence in the area which is fantastic.
We're regularly patrolling both sides of the lake and keeping an eye out for people that don't belong.
Hopeful that the Evac Order will be downgraded to Alert soon and people can come back to the lake!
