August 24 Update

Tyaughton Lake

Aug 24, 2023

Aug 24:

9:00pm - Quick Update:

·       The Lake looks great.

·       It's cool and no wind

·       Bladders are full on the West Side ready if they need to run pumps

·       Ground is soaked

·       Actually puddles on Tyaughton Rd.

·       Apparently BCWF has been filling pumps on West/Noth Sides of lake. Will be confirmed tomorrow.

·       Owner set-ups on East side are fully fuelled.

·       Everywhere is wet on both sides of the lake so pumps won't run this evening

·       Back road to East side of lake hill is burnt both sides (video and pictures will follow later tonight

·       Drove Gun Creek, lots of clean-up is on the way.  Spot fires but not as many as one the Tyaughton side of Tyaughton rd and up the back road

·       More to come later

·       But go to sleep - nothing to worry about tonight.

2:00pm - Next update coming after 5pm

8:00am - Gold Bridge Update:  Scott Holden

·       Gold Bridge update Aug 24th Good morning all We had a good soaking rain here yesterday that bought us two to three days reprieve . Progress report for town We have come along way in a short time We have completed all machine gaurds around town for better access to work on spot fires should we need to. What we have accomplished so far Lower machine gaurd from Linda’s place to suck pit , part of this protects hydro lines to our water systems building. East gaurd is completed as best we can with what the terrain will allow . Theirs protects the water building as well as gives us access for spotting in the fuel management zone east of town The high gaurd behind my house and down to the back of Linda’s to aid with rolling debris coming down the the hill from behind my house and helps to protect the power lines to Bralorne and gives access for dealing with spot fires We did a smaller gaurd to wrap around and give access from Jays place to Halymore heritage site . This was done in a short time and will require some tidy up when this is over for sure. We can all look after that in the fall when this is over. A hand fell strip was completed below the old ambulance building and cemetery. We have two water trucks in town We first response trailers with 1000 gallon tanks and fire pumps that can be moved where we need to We have placed several totes and tanks around town to help with filling piss cans One wajax pump has been put in the river to town and hose is layer and ready. This one comes up behind gas station. Second should be in today or tomorrow below Bobbies place and will come up through Kerrie’s into town , waiting for some more fire hose to complete this one Our sprinkler system test failed as you know as the delivery part of are system is inadequate. This is what we have completed . Structure Protection Unit is here and we’re very busy yesterday with laying hoses and pumps. It’s been quite busy in town and we are working closely with SPU and are in full cooperation with them , are homes and businesses are in there hands , a big thanks to them . They also have three fire trucks dedicated to the area , I am really impressed with the help from SPU . Great bunch people from all over . Volunteers continue to help fire smart all the homes in town and will continue for awhile We are all feeling very confident now that we should be good if this fire comes across the valley to our town, good plans for response are in place as well as plans when to pull out if necessary and where to muster. Forestry will send in support if needed if we do reach that situation. Resources are stretched thin in the province so please be patient folks . We have support when needed and please be respectful of all firefighters Thanks all and be safe

8:30am

·       Rained again in the valley last night

·       Morning is cool and overcast

·       visibility in town is poor but no report yet from lake

·       not windy

Reports won't be on a steady stream going forward - I will endeavour to report at 9am, 1pm, 6pm and an evening report if needed.  Stay positive.

9:00am

·       The cold damp morning has raised spirits as the mood is that it has bought everyone time.  SP is already in Gold Bridge working away.

·       Visibility is too poor for air support currently

·       Big push around GB to clear as much brush as possible.

·       Gun Creek is continuing to work on mop up

·       Hydro is working on clean-up as well

·       No word as to what resources have headed/are heading to Tyaughton.

·       Should have more photos later today to show where fire has been and is in the area.
